Present Space introduces a special edition of GENESIS, its fifth print issue. The special edition issue features a limited cover of 070 Shake by Kwabena Sekyi Appiah-nti. A limited run of 25 magazines were printed. Each issue is numbered and dated inside a custom linen slipcase.
Published and designed by AMILE, with creative direction from Present Space’s Nima Habibzadeh and Juan Duque, GENESIS is an exploration of the beginning and the end, the past and the future, the legend and the truth, the human and the machine.
Investigating the many types of time, and their orderly progression, in print five Present Space showcases twenty-two stories across art, culture, film, history, mythology, fashion and photography, celebrating the global reach of artists whose roots stem far beyond London, Los Angeles, and Latin America.
Through interviews, long-form cultural and research essays, and fashion features, GENESIS explores the complexities of the Universe in dialogue with the work and ideas of today’s biggest talents, including American rapper and singer 070 Shake in conversation with Saam Niami shot by Kwabena Sekyi Appiah-nti and Native American activist and model Quannah ChasingHorse in conversation with Cameron Russell shot by Diego Vourakis as well as fashion features with iconic models Lara Stone shot by Louise & Maria Thornfeldt in London and Aymeline Valade for Tiffany & Co. shot by Brett Lloyd in Paris, as well as rising star Caitlin Soetendal shot by Sonia Szóstak.
With a particular focus on Latin American identity, an interview and fashion feature fronted by Puerto Rican supermodel Joan Smalls and a cohort of next-gen Latino models shot by Diego Vourakis in New York explores Latin identity within the fashion industry. Meanwhile, Ricky Alvarez visits Mexico City to document Aztec mythology with a long-form cultural essay written by Fernando Berrojalbiz and Estevan Oriol shares photographic documentation of Cholo culture and communities across Los Angeles with a cultural essay and interview written by Luis Alvarez. Early Inventions & Technology, written by Richard Catty, examines the history of innovation with a photo series by Alex Cascallana.
